Hello Mathews Family,
It is so hard to believe we have made it to December. Everything has been new to me. It has been a real adventure to walk for the first time through the Mathews' traditions and events. Wha an exciting time! I have enjoyed so much getting to know your children. I look forward everyday to being here to greet them.
Our Cornerstone Work is continuing to spread. Students are regularly talking about their schema. Many have studied the strategy of visualizing what they are reading. We are moving into the strategy of questioning. We are learning good readers ask questions about the pictures in the story. They are learning that "thick" questions are more rigorous than "thin" questions. We will be moving into the strategy of "Inferring" in the days and weeks to come.
If you have not had a chance to see the Principal's Pick displays posted throughout the building, they will be up until we get out for the holidays. Please take a stroll to see them. The book is My Name is Yoon and all grade levels studied the same book and the displays are a result of their work.
Teachers are continuing to be trained in Math Exemplars. MathExemplars is a standards-based program using engaging manipulatives while differentiating the same math problem for a variety of learners. The CSU Math Collaborative is presenting this monthly learning development for our teachers.
